When you run a small business you expect not to see all of the revenue generated. The tax man wants his cut, the gas and electric company wants to kill your profits with kWh hikes. There is materials, consumables, equipment. The list goes on....
Then there's the gurus. Pick a subject, watch a YouTube video, get included in their emails and your soon bombarded with offers to enjoy $2,499 worth of how to advertise effectively on TikBook or Twitstagram for just the low price of $399. Now I freely admit that I have not tried any of these courses, they may be brilliant but it is hard to imagine how you'd ever keep a business if you subscribed to each and every one of them.
I guess it's just like life. Everyone wants a cut of your money. Hell! I want a cut of your money. The difference being you get to have a lovely item or gift for someone to show for it. I also don't get how the gurus get to consider themselves experts. Some you can see have a passion for their careers, a track history and qualifications. Others seem to be making it up as they go along, have very little evidence to show for the advice they are giving and seem to be more fluff than facts.
The internet is a fantastic place to learn things but I think we all need to be cautious about listening to random people who don't really have much to risk when it comes to us taking their advice.
So the next time I spend ten minutes learning how to crochet my tax return on YouTube I need to be conscious that the taxman may not taking kindly to wooly information so maybe I shouldn't either.
Hey if you do want to part with some money and keep me in crochet hooks then check out the twowoo shop. If there's something you'd like but can't find then just ask. Who knows we might be able to design it and add it to our store.
